Old Forge and Tug Hill are two separate, but exciting places to stay and play at. I love them both... I'm fortunate enough to ride often and enjoy a change. If you are used to staying or riding in one area, I highly recommend trying something new.
There is no trail permit required to travel on the area trail system. Most of the trails are made up of fire, seasonal and town roads. All clubs work on a volunteer basis. You are asked (Volunteer) to join at least one club in the area to help support the trails. There are donation jars and raffles located in businesses along the trails.
If you are not sure how to get to the area, "Copy & Paste" the following address into the Mapping Website below - Route 12, Boonville, New York. This will take you to the lower part of Tug Hill. Use the following address for the Northern part of the Hill - Route 177 Barnes Corners, New York.

STAY ON THE TRAILS. STAY OFF POSTED AND PRIVATE PROPERTY
The area ATV clubs work very hard to maintain existing trails and to open and establish new trails. Please respect the area land owners!

THE SEASON
From April through June the temperatures are generally cool, even dropping into the 40's and 50's at night. It's not uncommon to even get some snow in late April. In addition this early time in the ATV season is called "MUD" season. After winter is over and the snow melts rapidly causing the local creeks and rivers to swell over its banks. There are many puddles and mud. Most riders wear rain suits to protect themselves from mud. Bring eye protection. It can get very dusty and if your last in a number of riders, you'll be wishing you had them. Don't forget bug repellant!!! The black flys can get thick in some areas.

From July through August the area warms up. The temperature is generally around the 75 to 85 degrees. The nights are generally cool. There are many town and county fairs in the area, including the world famous Woodsman's Day Competition shown on ESPN in August.

From late August through October, the temperatures start to drop. Because most kids are heading back to school in September, ATVing the area also starts to slow down.

From late October through December the temperatures drop to freezing, and it's common to have a snow fall or two. This is also hunting season. The area has some of the best large and small game hunting in the country. HUNTERS ARE EXTREEMLY SENSITIVE DURRING THIS TIME.

DON'T FORGET ABOUT BRANTINGHAM
If you don't have a map, ask just about anyone how to get to Brantingham. There is an entire trail system waiting for you. Many of the local businesses cater and welcome ATVer's. Check out the Coach Light or the Pine Tree for a refreshing drink or some great food.
